“BEFORE – a research project” is a project that Anna conducted during the autumn of 2021 , with support from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media in the NEUSTART KULTUR program, DIS-TANZEN aid program of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland”.

The projects main focus was researching the topic of nervoussness in the moment  before  we are about to do something we have never done before.

What happens physically in ones body and mind during the moments before taking that leap of faith?

Why do we feel nervous? How can we cope with the feeling? How does the body react?

How does “social codes” ( live and digital ) affect the way we present ourselves?

The research included reading scientific books on the topic, interviews with friends and family and going through personal experiences on the topic. It also included learning more about the Jacobson’s relaxation Technique.

“Jacobson’s relaxation technique is a type of therapy that focuses on tightening and relaxing specific muscle groups in sequence. By concentrating on specific areas, tensing and then relaxing them, you can become more aware of your body and physical sensations.”

From the gathered information Anna explored movement material, and the thought of a creating visalisation of this invisible connection between body and brain developed. It led to experimantation with an elastic rope and idea for a future solo performance on the topic took shape.
